At Independent Refuge, we understand that navigating the immigration process can be complex and overwhelming. That’s why we are here to guide and support you every step of the way. Our experienced volunteers and donors have successfully completed sponsorship applications with the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) multiple times, ensuring that common mistakes and preventable delays do not occur.
Once you have been accepted into our program, we will initiate the sponsorship process on your behalf. This includes completing the necessary paperwork and submitting it to USCIS within 5 business days. We will work closely with you to gather all the required information, such as a copy of your passport and residence history, to ensure a smooth application process.
After the submission, USCIS will review the sponsorship information within 5 to 90 days. Upon approval, you will be notified, and you will then need to create a myUSCIS account. This account will be used to provide all the necessary biographical information and attest that you have been vaccinated for measles, polio, and COVID-19.
If you haven’t been vaccinated for these diseases, don’t worry. Independent Refuge will gladly assist you in the vaccination process, helping you obtain the first dose before your travel.
Once your myUSCIS account is complete, USCIS will review your request for travel authorization, which typically takes 1 to 14 days. If approved, you will have 90 days to travel to the United States. Rest assured that we will do our best to arrange for your tickets to depart within two weeks of receiving your travel authorization.
Upon arrival in the United States, you will go through Customs and Border Control, who will issue you a humanitarian parole for up to two years. It’s important to note that the United States has been flexible in extending this deadline when needed.
Throughout the entire sponsorship and USCIS approval process, Independent Refuge will be by your side, ensuring that everything is done correctly and efficiently. Our aim is to minimize any delays or complications, making your journey to the United States as smooth as possible.
