Senior Introductions

Cooperation > Senior Introductions

After time to relax and beginning to acclimate to their new life, program participants are introduced to elderly individuals who are seeking a live-in home care aid. These introductions are made after conducting a careful review of both the refugee and the elderly person’s personality and needs. This pre-introduction assessment is crucial in ensuring a compatible match between the program participant and the elderly individual, creating a harmonious living and working environment.

The post relaxation and learning stage focuses on finding longer-term placements for program participants, where they will live with and provide non-clinical assistance to the elderly individual they have been introduced to. These placements are carefully arranged, taking into account factors such as shared interests, compatibility in living habits, and any specific care needs of the elderly individual. By ensuring a good match, Independent Refuge aims to create a stable and supportive relationship between the program participant and the elderly individual.

Program participants have the option to request an alternative placement if they feel it is necessary. However, the thorough pre-introduction assessment process has significantly reduced the need for such requests. The careful review of personality and needs has helped to ensure that program participants are paired with individuals they can connect with and form a strong bond.

Once the match has been made, program participants settle into their role as live-in home care aids, providing non-clinical assistance with the daily living needs of the elderly individuals they are paired with. This includes tasks such as cooking, cleaning, companionship, and assistance with personal care. Program participants are provided with private living spaces within the home of the elderly individual, creating a sense of autonomy and privacy.

Throughout the placement, Independent Refuge remains an essential resource for program participants. They continue to assist with ongoing immigration legal needs and provide support in cases of conflict or unresolvable issues between the program participant and the elderly individual they are caring for. This ongoing support ensures that program participants feel secure and have access to resources and guidance when needed.

Overall, the post relaxation and learning stage focuses on creating longer-term placements for program participants, where they can establish a stable and supportive relationship with the elderly individuals they are paired with. The careful assessment process helps to foster compatibility and ensures that program participants can thrive in their role as home care aids, while also providing much-needed companionship to the elderly individuals they are assisting.
