Refugee Questions

Refugees eligible for this program must:

  • Be an independent Woman (Widowed, Military Spouse, Divorced, Unmarried and forced to leave on your own)
  • Speak and understand English at a B2 level or above.
  • Drive or be willing to learn to drive an automatic car.
  • Have a true affection for others in need and have experience assisting children or seniors.
  • Reside in Ukraine as of February 11, 2022;
  • Have a valid Ukrainian passport.
  • Pass health and security screenings to receive permission to travel to the United States

No, participation in the Independent Refuge program is 100% free and is paid for be our donors.

At no time will anyone ask you for payment in return for our program participation.

Independent Refuge will provide:

  • Sponsorship
  • Assistance with receiving US benefits.
  • No cost travel to the US
  • Private living quarters*
  • All meals
  • Employment as a home-care assistant
  • Legal immigration assistance
  • Education advancement opportunities
  • A community of other independent woman to socialize with
  • Paid time off
  • Healthcare benefits

We have a network of volunteers that are experienced in refugee extraction. Leveraging these volunteers and our local partners in Poland, Independent Refuge will ensure that you are safe from the time you leave your home until you check-in for your flight and beyond.

Independent Refuge partners with long-term care agencies in order to coordinate your employment and living situation. During the application process, you will complete a personality assessment. Prior to recommending a placement for you, all elderly household members are ask to complete a similar assessment. 

This process allows us to avoid most predictable personality conflicts. Ultimately, the decision of where to live is done in conjunction with your oppinions.

If any unexpected problem occurs, we will work with you and the household to address them. If there are any safety concerns, you will be placed in an alternative living environment immediately.

Upon arrival you will receive housing, food, and utilities at no cost to you.

Most participants spend use their employment income for personal/discretionary purchased, savings, or send funds to family members.

Uniting for Ukraine gives the you the right to enter the United States and stay temporarily for a two-year period. If you are interested in long-term immigration options, please let our team know and we will organize the needed legal services available.

We have developed our program in order to provide participants with a safe and complete resettlement solution during your time as a refugee. By providing participants with sponsorship, transportation, food, employment, community, and other services we hope that participants will continue to see ongoing benefits. However,  ongoing participation in the Independent Refuge is at the participants discretion.
